About This Training

This Hazmat First Responder Awareness (FRA) Level I Responder course is intended for firefighters, police officers, ambulance personnel, government employees, military personnel, and private industry emergency responders.

First responders at the awareness level are individuals who are likely to witness or discover a hazardous substance release, and have been trained to initiate an emergency response sequence by notifying the proper authorities of the release. They would take no further action beyond notifying the authorities.

OSHA requires FRAs to be trained in accordance with section (q) of the HAZWOPER regulation. This class has also been referred to as Hazmat FRA, Level I Responder, First Responder Awareness, or any combination of these terms.

This training does require annual refresher training, per OSHA, of sufficient content and duration to maintain responder competencies.
