Certified by CSTI (California Specialized Training Institute) - Cal OES
The objective of this Classroom 8 Hour First Responder Operations (FRO) Decontamination course is to train personnel who have been previously trained to the OSHA HAZWOPER First Responder Operations (FRO) level to conduct responder decontamination as a part of an organized response to incidents involving weapons of mass destruction or the release of hazardous materials (hazmat).
This training focuses on implementing responder decontamination with the equipment and personnel on hand during a hazmat incident in the jurisdiction where the student works in support of the local hazmat team members. FROs that are expected to conduct responder decontamination for their respective hazmat teams should be knowledgeable on the use of any specialized decontamination equipment in their inventory.
The intent of this course is to train FROs to perform responder decontamination in any level of chemical protection (even as high as Level A PPE) for any type of chemical spill, including weapons of mass destruction, under the direct supervision of a Decontamination Leader.
Participants who desire to take this training should have already had training equal to, or greater than, First Responder Operations (FRO), as defined in the OSHA HAZWOPER regulation. Proof of FRO training is required prior to attendance.
Additionally, participants must have had sufficient training in Respiratory Protection that includes the ability to don and doff a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). Students are encouraged, although not required, to bring an SCBA to training. If students do not have an SCBA available, one will be provided.
